The ultrasound phantom model KS107BD is applicable to the performance testing and quality assurance of the ultrasound instrument with operating frequency below 4MHz.
Main Parameter
(1) TM material speed of sound: 1540±10m/s (23±3℃).
(2) TM material slope of the attenuation coefficient: 0.70±0.05dB/cm/MHz (23±3℃).(3) Target string material: Nylon monofilament.
(4) Nylon string diameter:0.3±0.05mm.
(5) Target position tolerance:±0.1mm.

Appearance of the Structure
The material of the phantom housing is Polymethyl Methacrylate(PMMA). The housing
is fabricated and processed to be a tightly sealed chamber. There are two circular holes
with radius of 36mm at the bottom plate of the housing. They are bothpatchedand
sealedwith 1mm thick rubberasliquid injectionentryformaintenance. The target map
and instruction illustrationis pasted at the surface of the phantom housing. The top
surface of the phantom was sealed with a 60μmthick polyester film foracoustic window
use. A 10mm deep PMMA enclosure frame is pasted all around the acoustic window film
for reservation of water or other coupling material. A 3mm thick cover board could be
placed on the acoustic window film for protection purpose of acoustic window film when
not in use.
Internal Filling Material
The phantom is filled with standard ultrasonically Tissue-Mimicking(TM) Material which simulates the acoustic properties of human soft tissue. The Main parameters of the TM material are listed above at the Main Parameter part.
Nylon Target String System
The Nylon target strings, which are tightened between the front plate and the back plate of the phantom, are used as the reflection and scattering target in the acoustic filed. The 11target groups are thus buried in TM material. The map of the target groups is shown in Figure 1.

A1-A5: Axial-Lateral Resolution Target String Group
B: Dead Zone Target Group
C: Vertical Distance Target Group
D: Horizontal Distance Target Group
E: Hyperechoic(tumor-like)Target
F: Anechoic (Cyst-like, 10 mm in diameter) and stones-like Target G: Anechoic (Cyst-like, 6 mm in diameter) Target
The detail introduction of 11target groups isas following:
1.A1-A5: Axial-Lateral Resolution Target String Group,
The distancesbetween theLateral branchof the groupsand theacoustic window
are 30mm, 50mm, 70mm,120mmand 160mm respectively. Group A1and A2have
theadjacent targethorizontal interval 1mm, 5mm, 4mm, 3mm, 2mm from left to
right sequence. GroupsA3-A5are 5mm, 4mm, 3mm, 2mm. The vertical target string
branch has the adjacent target vertical interval 4mm, 3mm, 2mm, 1 mm from up to
down sequencefor all groups of this series.
2.B: Dead Zone Target Group,
The adjacent target string lateral intervals are 10mm. Thedistance of the target
strings to the acoustic window are respectively 10mm, 9mm, 8mm, 7mm, 6mm,
5mm, 4mm, 3mm.
3.C: Vertical Distance Target Group,
This target group includes 19strings, with theadjacent string interval is 10mm.
4.D: Horizontal Distance Target Group,
This target group includes 7 strings, withadjacent string interval is20mm.
5.E: Hyperechoic (tumor-like) Target,
Hyperechoictarget(tumor-like), is located between 70-80 mm in depth, with a 10mm diameter cylindrical shape. The cylinder axis is parallel to the target string.
6.F: Anechoic (Cyst-like, 10 mm in diameter) and stones-like Target,
Cyst-like cylindrical shape target, is located between 70-80 mm in depth, with 10
mm in diameter of the cylinder. The axial is parallel to the target string. Stones
mimicking target is located in the center of the cyst target with irregular shape,
among whichthe maximum size is of about 4-6 mm.
7.G: Anechoic (Cyst-like, 6 mm in diameter) Target,
Anechoic (cyst-like) target, is located between 47-53mm in depth, with a 6mm diameter cylindrical shape. Itscylinder axis is parallel to the target string.
