WEK-MRIP is a test phantom used for comprehensive performance evaluation and daily quality inspection of magnetic resonance equipment. Through the strict arrangement and combination of polymer materials resin, Teflon, propylene, polyethylene and air, the resonance intensity, deviation, attenuation, and noise changes generated when passing through the magnetic resonance equipment, and images are generated in the axial plane, coronal plane, and sagittal plane for verification and detection of magnetic resonance equipment.

The cylindrical shell of the WEK-MRIP phantom is made of acrylic material, with an outer diameter of 20cm and an inner diameter of 19cm. The top round plate is removable. The inside is inlaid with a test cube with a side length of 10cm. The test cube is made of 6mm thick polycarbonate plastic. The cube contains a slice thickness bevel, a photosensitive measurement vial, a high-resolution test plate, and a low-contrast test disc.

Phantom components

Slice thickness ramp:

Slice thickness ramp is mounted on the outside of the test cube. The ramp is 2mm thick and 10mm wide. It is placed at a 14° angle relative to the phantom coordinate axis, providing a 4x magnification factor for slice width measurement. The two opposing ramps intersect at the center of the test cube plate for positioning calibration.

Spatial resolution test chart:

There are three sets of spatial resolution test charts, which can test the resolution of the coronal, axial and sagittal planes respectively. Each set is made of 2mm thick acrylic plate supported by channels in the test cube. This is done by using a series of rectangular slots, with a test range of 2, 2.5, 2.7, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. One set of test cards has 3mm holes spaced at 2cm, 4cm and 8cm squares for testing geometric distortion

Photometric vials:

Photometric samples are stored in four cylindrical vials with an outer diameter of 1.9cm and an inner diameter of 1.6cm. Vials can be filled with various solutions for T1 and T2 measurements through 0.6 cm ports on the outside of the cube.

Cube Support Plates:

Two cube support plates hold the cube in place within the cylinder and can be easily installed and removed. While determining the cube position, the plates also provide information for spatial linear measurements. The test cube support plates have 3 mm holes in 8 cm, 10 cm and 12 cm squares centered on the axis of the phantom, with 4 groups of 2 cm squares at the corners of the larger squares. This design allows for measurement of both global geometric distortion and local distortion.

Low Contrast:

The low contrast test module is constructed from an acrylic disk mounted on the base of the test cube. The four groups of three circular recesses have depths of 0.5 mm, 0.75 mm, 1.0 mm and 2.0 mm and diameters of 4 mm, 6 mm and 10 mm, respectively. (from the center of the axis to the outside)

Housing:

The housing assembly includes the housing and the cube support plate (for supporting the 10 cm cube test module). The top circular plate of the housing is removable, and a test artifact test module is added to the disc. With the test cube and support disc removed, the housing can be used for comprehensive spatial uniformity measurements. The housing is easy to clean, allowing the use of gel and liquid solutions, and multiple ports allow unrestricted flow when draining.
